I’ve been taking the bus to and from work every day for almost the past year. It helps that I moved from a 20 mile drive to a 30 minute commute by bus. It’s even better that I live a mile from the park and ride. Of course the savings on gas is really adding up too!

4th entry – We have been making our life greener by pulling plugs out of the electrical sockets when the product is not in use. We have also been changing ALL of our lightbulbs to the more energy efficient bulbs. The costs change was hardly noticeable in the beginning. However, we have begun to notice a lower electrical bill. We have also been attempting to make our life greener, by not using chemicals to make our lawn greener. We use a more natural approach. Thanks for this chance.

3rd entry – although my tip has been around for awhile, I am hoping that it will be a NEW tip for some. Years ago, my mother used to save egg shells and coffee grounds. She used them in her gardening. Both were sprinkled around her roses. She had some very beautiful roses. I know that she did not think that it was “recycling” – she just was a depression era person who knew how to reuse. Thanks for this chance.

My green step that I would do is to use reusuable bags for clothes shopping. Everyone pretty much uses reusuable bags in the grocery stores, or at least are aware of grocery store reusuable bags. But, for clothes shopping, stores are still using plastic. I have reusuable bags that my husband’s place of employment passed out to their employees. They are bigger than the reusuable grocery bags. Thanks for this giveaway. You have given me an incentive to come up with a new green step.

Buy only what you need and then get it from thrift stores and garage sales. Re-using items saves a lot of resources that are used to make something new.

Here’s my green step that will help the environment. We are cutting back on driving and walking more and using mass transit. We found a bus route near us that can take us to the subway instead of driving.

We reuse all of our paper that is in the recycle bin at work. If it’s printed on one side, we make sure we use the clean side too. We cut it up into smaller squares and use it for message paper, notes (instead of post its), and my college lets the students turn in homework on the back of paper.

I use empty mint/gum/tea tins to help organize my desk drawer. They are perfect to keep paperclips, thumbtacks, etc. all in one place!
