Innovative Ways to Renovate Your Office Building

You don’t want your office building to look like a stereotype. The dismal aesthetic of gray on gray is a thing of the past, and you’re ready to embrace the future. You’re searching for advice you can implement to give your space a modern look and feel — something different than what you’re used to.

But it isn’t as simple as choosing a new color scheme. You can visit a nearby hardware store and browse their selection of paints, but if you don’t make bold, creative changes to your office building, you’re doing yourself a disservice. There’s an excellent quote which encapsulates this concept well. Albert Einstein once said, “If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got.”

In other words, try something new, because if you don’t, you’ll have to settle for what you already have. We’ll guide you in the right direction, detailing three innovative ways to renovate your office building. Let’s get started.

1. Hanging Greenery

Every workspace benefits from a touch of greenery. While you likely have two or three plants around your building — philodendrons or yuccas — you should take a trip to your local greenhouse and see what else you can find. Move away from common plants and search for something a little more exciting or unusual, taking care to select species that won’t wither in an office environment.

Here are some office-friendly plants that can add color and life to your space:

  • African violets
  • Rex begonias
  • Tillandsias

You could place your pots on filing cabinets and desks, or you could make the most of your ceiling with hanging planters. If you fill them with vibrant flowers, they’ll add a layer of beauty and dimensionality to an otherwise bland room. You can also experiment with tillandsias, an open-air plant that doesn’t need soil to grow, allowing you to attach them to other decorations and exercise your creativity.

2. Strategic Lighting

Imagine an important client visits for a meeting to discuss the progress your company has made in promoting their brand. They pass by a row of strategically directed wall lights that draw their attention to framed photos of the creative team at an award ceremony, or the CEO shaking hands with high-profile businesspeople.

Even if you’re not in advertising, the concept remains the same. You don’t have to limit the lighting in your office to the tubes in the ceiling and the lamps on the desks. You can employ lighting as a tool to emphasize different features of your space and leave a powerful first impression, organizing your arrangement to accentuate the strengths of your building and obscure its weaknesses.

3. Unique Flooring

A boring floor is usually indicative of a boring office building. If the tiles are gray and dull, or the carpet is beige and worn, you can expect that the rest of the property won’t impress you much. Fortunately, you have more options today than you’ve ever had in renovating your flooring, and you’ll no doubt find a pattern or color that appeals to your style and preferences.

Commercial property owners have shown an increasing interest in polished concrete. Professionals from retail stores, restaurants and hotels have all hired grinding and polishing contractors to beautify their existing floors, transforming dull surfaces into a marble-like quality. The process is also eco-friendly, eliminating the use of processed materials, chemical coating and cleaners.

Out With the Old

In with the new. You can turn your office building into something beautiful with hanging greenery, strategic lighting and unique flooring. See which options are within your budget, and if you feel like they’ll add value to your space, consider the investment.

Hi there, great tips on making an office space more inviting and green! Way better than a cubicle with stacks of paper everywhere. 😉 Thanks for sharing! We’ve worked to eliminate some paper by ditching paper business cards and going with Squiqr Pro. It’s a cool new way to share contact info and it eliminates paper waste and emissions associated with thrown out business cards!
You can check it out here if you like. Thanks!
