Finally, it’s time to announce the Eco-Office Gals August Giveaway! Drum roll, Please! This month giveaway is a reusable bag from Rejavanate!
These bags are made from re-purposed burlap and the bags address three important issues;
1). They reduce a significant source of landfill waste
2). They provide jobs to those that often have difficulty finding jobs
3). They provide a good way to reduce our paper and plastic bag consumption
Did you know!
– Coffee is the second largest commodity in the world
– 800,000 tons of burlap are put into landfills every year
– The ARC helps 140,000 people find housing and employment
– US consumes over 380 billion plastic bags, sacks and wraps
– 14 million trees were cut to produce 10 billion paper bags for grocery stores in the US
This large bag is 15 inches wide by 15 inches tall and has the ReJAVAnate logo. They are rugged and great for everyday usage, going to the store or trips.
So, how do you get a chance to win this great bag? Here is what I propose, I have the worst time remembering to take my bags to the store, there have been countless times that I have bought another bag because once again all of mine where sitting at the house! Leave a comment to this post with your tip or trick to remember your bag and you will be entered for a chance to win! I too have arrived store-side only to remember my bags…too late. My solution is to put up an extra coat hook to hang the bags on near the back door where I can’t miss them as I go out. dlcwin[at]gmail[dot]com

I stopped carrying a purse a few years ago because of a diaper bag. I have recently stopped needing a diaper bag and instead now I use my recyclable bags as a purse. I out the folded ones in the bottom of one and then put my keys and wallet in there. That way I can not leave the house without my bags or my keys and wallet.

I have a horrible time remebering to bring my bags. Now what I do is as soon as I empty the groceries out of the bags, I turn around and take them to my car. Ever since I started doing this, no more forgetting!

Great looking bag! I have a clip on my key ring that I use to clip my keys to my purse, belt loop or where ever so I don’t loose my keys. After I empty a bag, I just clip my keys to it so I can’t leave the house without it next time.

I keep several bags in the car, as well as hanging them on the doorknob when I empty them in the house. I also try to have 1 upstairs in my house for things I might be bringing down and then out of the house like library books or work from my office area.

It is difficult to remember them, but once you get into the habit, it’s easy. I leave mine in the car by my little ones carseat since he is usually with me when I shop. After I unload the groceries I put them on the door handle to the garage to I’ll rememmber to toss them back in the car the next time I head out. Thanks for the great giveaway!

I have my green bag in the car trunk. If I forget them I can simply walk back to the car to get them. My greatest reminder is my daughter, what environment will she have and I think of setting an example so she can learn from early on to be eco-friendly.

My groceries bags are in the trunk, since I put them there every time I am emptying them. The reason I don’t forget to open the trunk at the grocery store is because I still have some plastic bags from the produce section, and I dump them in the recycle bin, therefore I look for them and grab the bags. For every day shopping, I do it like in Europe, keep a folded bag in my purse, and take the cart out if I bought too much.I know they are not ideal solutions, but they work for now.I wish the groceries stores would do like in Europe: “Do you need a bag?” If the answer is yes, you need to pay for it( them). That would make you remember to bring yours next time.We have a fun contest with a sustainable tunic giveaway! Check out the blog:www.zoicamatei.com/blog.aspx

This is a new age timeless problem. You want to use the bags but you leave them at home. I have found that once their empty I hang them on the door knob so that the next time I walk out the door they are there and I can put them in the car.

Note from eco-office gals:This e-mail was posted to my inbox from Gary of The green Path Company rather than the post so I am submitting. Jen, Not sure if this is the right place to respond to your email on tips for remembering the bring your bags but I posted this entry on my blog last week regarding this subject. It’s encouraging to see more and more people ditch the plastic shopping bags in favor of reusable bags. It’s also encouraging to see more and more retail outlets offering some type of bag for customers to purchase. Unfortunately there still remains a problem with this process. Well more than one problem but until big grocers and retailers stop offering plastic bags as a choice we will have to rely on ourselves to help solve the problem. The problem I am talking about is to remember the bags when we go shopping. Even with the best intentions we all seem to “forget” from time to time. We have our bags in the car all the time and we sometimes forget to take them into the store with us until it’s too late. Frustrating as that is we have come up with a solution that works for us. Remember the old song line “Tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree”, well we tie an organic cotton ribbon round our old steering wheel as our reminder to Remember the Bags (RTB). Kind of like tying a string around your finger to remind you to do something. It works for us, so far, and in additon to this solution I have a few others that may prove helpful to you.Try these ideas out and let us know how they work for you and also let us know if you have tried and true methods you use that we can pass along.1. Write on your shopping list “Remember the Bags” and highlight it so it stands out. This should remind you as you head out for a shopping trip to bring your bags.2. Put a sign or note on your garage door or whichever door you go out to get into your car to RTB.3. Put a sticker on your steering wheel as a reminder. It doesn’t matter what you do as long as you remember, so continue to spread the word about replacing the plastic AND more importantly RTB.
