How to Educate Your Employees About Going Green

In today’s society, it is incredibly important to instill green practices into your business. More and more companies are beginning to understand the importance of implementing these kinds of practices into your company. By moving into a green mindset, you will save money and help the environment by not being as wasteful with your energy and resources. Unfortunately, simply saying that you’re going to be green leaves employees with many questions. Most don’t understand what needs to be done, and others simply don’t care about it. As a business owner, there are several things you can do to encourage and educate employees.

Training Courses:
Offer training courses to all of you staff so they can receive an education regarding a green initiative. Once they understand its importance, they may feel more inclined to support you in the changes throughout the office. You can offer training courses in-house, or provide access through training programs like www.opensesame.com. Doing the courses online will give your employees an option of when and where they want to learn.

A Green Retreat:
If you want to have more control over the material and the way your staff learns, consider hosting a green retreat. Lots of places throughout the world offer resorts that are purely green. Host a company retreat. During the retreat, have classes about green practices and what you want to accomplish as a company through your initiative. Giving your employees a weekend submersed in a green environment may help them greater understand the importance and comfort that comes with the implements that you want to make.

Incentives for Working Green:
After your employees receive a bit of knowledge about the topic, start initiatives throughout the office. Challenge them to come up with new green tactics you can implement, and then reward them when they do. If you plan the initiatives correctly, you can have the entire office passionate about saving energy and helping the environment. Get creative and push your employees to dig deeper into the subject. They will appreciate your support, and you will get to reap the benefits of their passion for going green.

There are many things you can do to educate and encourage employees to embrace making the office green. Once you get everyone on board, things will run smoothly and more efficiently with your new green tactics. Save money and energy by make a green office space for your company.

Forming green teams has been a success at many organizations. Groups of employees take on “green” initiatives within the company to report on ideas on energy efficient operations or contributing to social volunteerism with an eco-friendly angle.
