Going green benefits businesses in many ways, from decreasing overhead expenses to increasing clientele. Becoming a green business also improves your reputation in the community and online. A few key ways that going green will overall improve your business include:

Better Indoor Air Quality

Using green products while remodeling or refitting your business improves the indoor air quality in your building. Choosing low-VOC paints, furniture finished without chemical-laden stains and varnishes and natural flooring materials reduces the amount of contaminants in the air that your clients, visitors and staff breathe. This means fewer sick days for your employees, reducing your labor costs and improving your productivity.

Reduced Environmental Impact

Going green reduces your business’ environmental impact and saves you a considerable amount of money on services such as waste collection. Choosing products with less packaging, purchasing items in bulk and choosing natural products when possible all help reduce your environmental impact and expenses. Implementing reusable items such as water filters instead of bottled water also saves money on the cost of water, reduces the amount of trash and lowers your environmental impact.

Tax Advantages

There are many federal and state tax advantages to going green in your business. These range from upgrading to high efficiency heating and cooling systems and other appliances to installing renewable power resources such as solar power. You may even be able to sell excess power that your business generates back to the utility company, which will pay for the green power source within a few years of use. Many local communities may also offer tax incentives for investing in green products and energy systems for your business.

Improved Community Reputation

Once you go green as a business, word will spread around the community of your activities. You will be known as an environmentally friendly and conscious business who cares about your community.

Increased Clientèle

As your reputation in the community grows as a green business, you will notice increased interest and more customers knocking at your door. Customers want to do business with companies that are responsible with resources and willing to make investments for the future. When clients are looking to invest in a business, they will notice your increased reputation, lower costs, and planning for the future and reward you with more business.

Going green is one of the best ways for your business to maintain a positive reputation while also saving money on overhead.  In addition to managing your business’ reputation with the help of a company like ReputationManagers.com, also consider growing green.  Not only will you save a few dollars, but you will also be doing good for your community and enticing more clients – both of which will help promote your business’ longevity.

Love your article on going green in the business community. I think it’s a no-brainer right? For all the intrinsic benefits I’ve yet to really find any drawbacks. I also applaud your efforts at ridding the world of senseless paper waste.
