As more and more working professionals realize how important protecting the planet is, they are upgrading their cubicles to be eco-friendly. Business owners like yourself can encourage employees to make small changes that can go a long way for Earth. At the same time, you can save yourself capital while upgrading your cubicles. Companies who have green offices typically pay less costly bills each month. If you want to help the planet and your company’s financial state, continue reading and learn how to upgrade your cubicles to be eco-friendly.
Conserve Your Computer’s Energy
One way to upgrade your cubicles to be eco-friendly is to conserve your computer’s energy. There are two ways to do this. You can purchase an energy-saving computer with an eco-friendly monitor and printer. If your company has not gone paperless yet, consider adopting eco-friendly printing practices to make this method even more effective. Your other option entails keeping your current computer and turning on energy-saving settings. Turn on your monitor and display sleep setting, which allows you to set your device to go to sleep after 15 minutes. You can also turn off your hard drives after the same period of time. Many professionals set their computers to go to sleep after 30 minutes of not being used as well. Encourage your employees to make these simple computer changes to create an eco-friendly office.
Decorate With Plants
Another way to make your cubicles more eco-friendly is to decorate them with plants. While plants are pretty and liven up any room, they also provide an additional benefit for the environment. They filter the air, improving your office air quality. Moreover, their liveliness and vibrant colors constantly encourage your employees to be as eco-friendly as possible. This makes an eco-friendly office more enjoyable and gives everyone involved some ownership. Gift your employees with individual plants to place in their cubicles. You will make their cubicles more eco-friendly while also showing them appreciation.
Install Eco-Friendly Shelves
Furthermore, business owners install eco-friendly shelves to upgrade their cubicles. Many professionals assume that cubicle shelves are less attractive than normal shelving. To their surprise, they find that they actually look the same while still being eco-friendly. You can find quality environmentally-friendly shelves in various colors, styles and sizes. You can match any wooden furniture or play with vibrant colors to brighten up your workers’ spaces. Either way, using eco-friendly shelves is a great way to upgrade your cubicles to be eco-friendly.
Replace Your Light Bulbs
When trying to make your cubicles more eco-friendly, consider the lighting. While some offices try to keep the lights off during the work day and rely on natural light instead, other teams need the artificial light. If you are one of those teams, you can still improve upon your lighting situation. Replace your current light bulbs with compact fluorescent lamps or LED bulbs. In doing so, you will use 75% less energy without sacrificing your light sources. Save even more energy by using natural light when you can. You can also improve your employees’ moods by using natural light. If this is not possible for you, use eco-friendly artificial light in the office.
Use Recycled Furniture
Finally, you can boost your eco-friendliness by purchasing recycled furniture for your employees to use in their cubicles. Start off by asking yourself, “How eco-friendly is my furniture?“. Then, move on to purchase more sustainable pieces. Contrary to popular belief, you can find eco-friendly office furniture easily. Companies sell eco-friendly desks, dividers and chairs for working professionals to optimize their workspaces with. These companies create their products with sustainably harvested woods and recycled materials. They are also non-toxic and bio-based. The best businesses build their furniture with materials that do not give off noxious odors as well. Thus, you can create a more eco-friendly working environment by getting recycled furniture for your cubicles.
If you want to make both the planet and your office a better place, make your cubicles eco-friendly. Begin by either purchasing new, energy-conserving computers or turning on energy-saving settings on your current devices. Improve the air in your workplace by gifting your employees with individual plants for their work stations. Put eco-friendly shelves up next to or above your workers’ cubicles. Replace your regular light bulbs with either compact fluorescent lamps or LED bulbs. In addition, purchase recycled furniture made with non-toxic, bio-based materials that do not give off noxious odors. Take these steps to upgrade your cubicles to be more eco-friendly.

Hi Jen, thank you for this post! Many offices put a lot of money on buying new shiny furniture even though used furniture is less expensive, just as good, and might be highly appreciated by their (eco-minded) costumers when they come to visit!

I love the concept of making your office / workspace eco-friendly. As a business we have been working towards new working processes to use less paper and hope we see a difference soon. The Eco shelves are a great option, a strong fibre board material could also be used. They provide a surprisingly strong structure and are 100% recyclable.
