Going green has become a popular thing to do, and thankfully this also means that you are taking better care of yourself. These methods can keep you feeling healthy and also ensure that you are doing your part to maintain healthy and eco-friendly living.
- Go Organic: Not only does organic food taste better as it lacks the usual pesticides, but that also makes it better for the environment. Picking organic fruits and vegetables ensures that no pesticides or additives are used, and this means it’s healthier for you and for the environment.
- Choose to Walk: If you have the option to walk to a chosen destination rather than jumping in the car, then try it out. This ensures that you get in some exercise which contributes to a healthy and natural lifestyle. In the process, you are also doing your part to eliminate dangerous emissions from your car. So walk it out!
- Quit Smoking: Smoking isn’t just bad for you; it’s also bad for the environment. You are literally polluting the air when you exhale the harmful smoke from cigarettes. So if you quit smoking altogether, you are keeping the earth safer and ensuring that you are maintaining a better picture of health in the process.
- Open Your Windows: If you’re at home or in the car, open your windows rather than running the air conditioning. This ensures that you get fresh air that keeps you feeling good. It also means that you are doing your part to conserve energy and going green as you do so. This is another instance of what is good for you is also good for the environment.
- Use Green Skin Care Products: If you want to ensure that you maintain healthy and beautiful skin, buy organic or green products. These are tested appropriately, use natural ingredients, and are far better for your skin. They are also far better for the environment, so it’s a true win-win!
- Only Clean with Green Products: Household cleaners can be one of the worst sources of pollutants in your very own environment. So rather than using the typical household cleaners that have a long list of potentially dangerous ingredients choose healthy and green alternatives. Go for natural options such as vinegar, or even those that have certain standards and ingredients in their creation.
- Grow Your Own Garden: Who doesn’t love that taste of fresh produce? You can have it for yourself by growing your own produce. This ensures that you get healthy and natural fruits and vegetables, and gives back to the environment in the process. It’s easy to do and good for you and Mother Earth!
Going green is a lot easier than you might think, especially these days! If you want to take care of yourself and the environment at the same time, find effective ways such as these to do both. You’ll feel better and be taking care of the environment in the process.

We have the smallest paved backyard I’ve ever seen, but there’s still just enough room and sunlight to grow our own potted vegetables. They don’t have much of a problem with bugs or such, because there’s no other yards around us.
Who says you can’t grow vegetables in the middle of the city!

Growing our own vegetables in the backyard for over 20 years in raised plots was the best idea we’ve ever had. It takes a little work, but it’s Fun work. And, everyone who has dinner with us ALWAYS tell us how good the food tastes. We remind them that there NO chemicals to worry about, either!

I have to disagree with Keith about Compact Fluorescent Bulbs. Sure it sounds like they are green, but they contain deadly mercury. Mercury is a neurotoxin, and the companies and federal government haven’t figured out safe and effective ways to dispose of or recycle the stuff. Plus, the bulbs break easily in the dumpster and in garbage trucks. Leaking mercury contaminates soil and make it unsafe to live in the area. Some states, cities and counties have outlawed putting CFL bulbs in the trash. So compact fluorescent bulbs are still a can of worms and can pollute the environment.
I’d like to suggest a great natural household cleaner that benefits wellness –Thieves Natural Cleaner – it’s green, biodegradable, powerful and healthy.

I wish organic produce didn’t cost so much. It is awful that poor people can afford boxes of mac-n-cheese but not quality food.

I am so happy to have found your website. This is so cool Organic food is also higher in nutrient content as well as being pesticide free.
I have a garden which is organic, and the soil is also healthier and in better shape now.
I also learned that organic meat from grass fed animals, if you eat meat is far better for you.
I learned in college last year about the benefits of eating whole natural foods, and it is amazing what health conditions that can be cured just by taking those steps.

I agree with Keith (above) re-switching to low-energy light bulbs, but the one single thing that has the most benefit for the environment is to stop eating meat. The percentage of greenhouse gases emissions caused by the livestock industry around the world is now put at over 50%. Hard to believe, but true. It is more harmful that all of the forms of travel and energy production put together and yet it is so simple to reduce by a change of diet.

Some more going green tips:
1. Buy Compact Fluorescent Bulbs: Best for lights that will be on for at least 15 minutes at a time. If everyone in the US switched, it would be like taking 1 million cars off the road. One bulb per household would save us $600 billion.
2. Make Your Own Green Cleaning Products: All you need is Borax, Baking Soda, Washing Soda and Vinegar–all in your grocery’s cleaning aisle. Non-toxic, effective and cheap. Check out my recipes at http://www.how-you-can-save.com/green-cleaning-products.html.
3. Conserve Water: A $15 low flow shower head saves you 2 gallons/minute. A 1 drop/second faucet drip wastes 2,700 gal/year, so fix that drip. Rather than pre-washing dishes before loading the dishwasher (5 min. of this=25 gallons), use your washer’s pre-wash or rinse cycle first (uses 1 gallon).

Great tips for championing the green issue. We have been trying to implement these tips for some time now. On the grow your own side it can be difficult to get the balance right, especially if your hard work is eaten by insects, but if you do manage to succeed, then all the hard work is worth all the effort. You will feel fitter if you leave the car at home, walk or cycle instead.
